Palm Mar, separated from Los Cristianos by Montaña Guaza, has been one of the fastest growing residential towns in Tenerife over the last fifteen years or so. It has become quite a cosmopolitan village with many different nationalities living happily side by side, and planning laws mean that there are no hotels.
The village is only a 10 minute drive from the main South Airport and is close to one of the principal resorts in the south of the island - Los Cristianos - with just a short drive taking you to the other main centres (Las Americas, Torviscas, San Eugenio, Puerto Colon, Fanabe, Costa Adeje, El Duque and La Caleta).
There is only one access road in and out of Palm Mar, which you enter beneath an arch and the village is bordered on one side by Montaña Guaza and on the other by a nature reserve, El Malpais de La Rasca, and by the Atlantic Ocean. This means that development is restricted and Palm Mar cannot grow and spread as many other towns in Tenerife have. It also maintains an exclusive, secluded aura, with a wide variety of property to choose from, depending on your budget, requirements and preferences. As well as the established property there are some new projects at various stages of development so it is possible to still purchase ‘off plan’. Property in the village is a mix of apartments, semi detached houses and villas, some old but mostly relatively new.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants for residents and visitors to enjoy and if you take a stroll along the pretty promenade you will find two ventures on the beach: The Chiringuito, Palm Mar and The Bahia Beach Club.
For those who like their sport, the village also boasts a gym (Xtrength) which is fully equipped and has excellent facilities and classes for anyone who wants to train and keep fit. If you dive, the sea off the coast of the village a diver’s delight with a reef supporting a variety of marine life, natural caves and wrecks to explore.
Walking is also very popular and many people enjoy trekking over the Montaña Guaza or across the nature reserve to the lighthouse and the next town, Las Galletas, as well as to other parts of the island.
As well as a wide range of Bar/cafes and restaurants, a bank branch, and 4 Estate Agents, there is a large, modern supermarket and, coming soon, another household-name one, as well as a ‘High Street’ ‘Ferreteria (DIY shop), a barber/hairdresser, herbalist and clothes boutiques.
All in all, Palm Mar is a beautiful, peaceful place to live or have your holiday home in the sun!
